Large Flared Marsden Flower Toki, New Zealand Greenstone
This beautiful toki has been carved from a gorgeous piece of Marsden flower greenstone that allows the two sides of the pendant to be completely opposite in colour. One side is a deep, dark green with pale inclusions at the top. The other is Mostly pale green with dark inclusions appearing at the sides. A gorgeous flared design with traditional binding. Toki were traditionally worn by chiefs and warriors, as symbols of strength, wisdom, and authority.
Marsden Flower Greenstone comes from the Marsden area of the West Coast of New Zealand. The gold and white coloured variegation in the piece is called "flower" and makes this type of greenstone particularly valued and distinctive.
This pendant was hand carved on the west coast of the South Island, New Zealand, by Jeremy.
